Australian Astronaut invited to International Space Station

A huge step towards an Australian in space with the news that the European Space Agency has offered Katherine Bennell-Pegg a potential place in a future space mission that would take her to the International Space Station.

Touring Western Australia's Goldfields as part of her commitments as Australian of the Year, Bennell-Pegg, 41, revealed the offer and affirmed her commitment to inspiring the next generation and stimulating the Australian space economy.

"I hope that through representing Australia, I can unlock the opportunity for Australia to be part of human space flight, to be able to put payloads in space, to do research up there," she said.
